Another attempt will be made to play the West Riding County Sunday Cup quarter-final between holders West Bowling and Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division leaders Buttershaw White Star this Sunday.

This fixture, which is scheduled to be contested at Emsley’s Rec (11am), was the main casualty of last weekend’s freezing temperatures.

The West Riding County Sunday Trophy quarter-final between Red Lion Bradford, from Division 3B, and Huddersfield’s Marsh Liberal Club is also due to be played next weekend, with Avenue Road the venue.

Thornton United, beaten 3-0 by Buttershaw White Star last Thursday under floodlights at Liversedge, nevertheless look set for promotion to the Premier Division.

The Division One front-runners have, in recent seasons, played Premier opposition in various cup competitions and have always given a good account of themselves.

Last season they ran treble winners West Bowling very close in a District Cup quarter-final and are sure be an asset to the Premier Division if they are promoted.

Division One, however, is strong with an abundance of good teams and the title and promotion spots are being fought out between some familiar names, with Oakenshaw – who were in the Premier Division last season – in a close contest with Peel Park.

Tyersal Sunday and White Eagles are also in the mix and you can go down as far as seventh-placed Sandy Lane, who, if they win their matches in hand, could come into the picture as promotion prospects.

Only ten points separate the top seven clubs in this very competitive division. The two clubs in the drop zone are Ventus United and Allerton but anyone can beat anyone at this level.

Division 2A is, at the moment, a three-horse race between Ancient Foresters, Wrose Albion and White Hart Eccleshill, with the third-placed club having matches in hand on the teams above them.

One of the tightest current sections is Division 3B, where Hare & Hounds are in pole position with the same number of points as Salthorn and Grass Greener United but both have played a game fewer than the leaders.

Red Lion, who are having a terrific run in the County Trophy, will, if they win their matches in hand, come into contention for promotion.
