Tanvir strike seals cup for Woods

Atif Tanvir scored four minutes from time as Bolton Woods hit back from 2-1 down to beat Ventus Sports 3-2 in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup final.

The score in the Horsfall Stadium showdown was the same as in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League encounter last weekend, when Ventus had let a 2-0 lead slip away.

This time Steve Bromley and Aston Mursurk responded to Matt Addy’s opener after a goalless first half but man of the match Chris Cookson equalised for Woods and Tanvir then struck the decider.

There is another cup final scheduled for Sunday as Manningham take part in their second of the season.

They lost to Mailcoach in the Bradford & District Cup decider last weekend but will hope for better fortune against Buttershaw Celtic in the Bradford Sunday Alliance Intermediate Cup at Manningham Mills (2.15pm).

In the league, Bolton Woods will be hoping their midweek exertions have not left them too drained as they attempt to hang on to second place in the Premier Division.

They take on Buttershaw White Star and have the chance to inflict a third defeat of the season on the champions elect.

Title-chasing duo Baildon Athletic and Westwood Park will be hoping to take advantage of current leaders Thornton’s inactivity to close the gap at the top of Division One.

Trinity visit Bradford Irish Club and Westwood host newly crowned Keighley & District Cup winners Oakworth Juniors.

Thackley Shoulder will go top of Division 1A if they win at Kings Arms – and chasing them will be Seven Stars if they collect the points at home to local rivals Victoria Rangers.

New Division 1B leaders Ventus United should beat bottom club Wibsey WMC B but waiting in the wings will be long-time pacesetters Allerton, who need the points at home to Bolton Junction Inn.
