Burnham header settles rehearsal

Bolton Woods and Ventus Sports face each other in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup final at Horsfall Stadium on Wednesday evening.

And if that match is as good as the dress rehearsal in the PREMIER DIVISION, which saw Woods edge it 3-2, then spectators are in for a treat.

Visitors Ventus quickly built up a two-goal lead with strikes from Ben Hardy and Sol Peltier and went in at the break with a deserved 2-0 advantage.

But substitute Chris Cookson reduced the arrears with a 40-yard thunderbolt and Matt Addey levelled the scores, before Mark Burnham – another substitute – came on to head the winner 20 minutes from time.

Clayton Orient destroyed visiting Tyersal 9-1, with Andy Fieldhouse scoring four times and Jordan Barrett notching a brace.

Rock-bottom Oakenshaw logged a fine 4-1 home victory over high-flying Relay Recruitment Rovers to close the gap on fellow strugglers Campion Park Avenue to a single point. Avenue were beaten 5-3 at Silsden.

Newly-crowned champions Buttershaw White Star warmed up for their League Cup final appearance with a 3-0 win at Queensbury, Lee Bialek hitting all three goals.

Thornton Sunday virtually assured themselves of promotion from DIVISION ONE as they thrashed Bradford Irish Club 7-0 and nearest challengers Westwood Park lost 3-2 at home to White Eagles.

Lee Burgess grabbed a brace for Westwood but Less Serrant (2) and Leon Reid responded for White Eagles.

Baildon Trinity climbed to second place as they beat Hare & Hounds/Power 4-0.

Otley Road are up to sixth after a 3-1 victory at Great Northern, Alec Cusack notching a couple and keeper Graham Waterhouse converting a last-minute penalty.

Seven Stars maintained their DIVISION 1A title pursuit with a 5-0 victory at Buttershaw Celtic, with Paul Taylor (3) and Paul Moorhouse (2) dividing the goals.

Craig Gartland scored for Kings Arms but could not stop Victoria Rangers completing the double over his club with a 3-1 verdict after also being beaten by them in midweek.

Shock of the day in DIVISION 1B was the 9-1 demolition of promotion hopefuls St Georges by third-bottom Dudley Hill Rangers, who had hat-trick heroes in Anthony Hurd and substitute Michael Murphy.

Allerton dropped to second despite having Ben O’Melia hitting a brace in their 5-2 win against mid-table Royal, with in-form Ventus United moving top on goal difference after beating Saltaire Rangers 4-2.

Teenager Jack Barker cracked a hat-trick for Junction Thornbury as they shot down Gaping Goose 4-0.
