WEST Bowling were denied making it an all-Bradford Sunday Alliance League final against Thornton United as they lost 2-1 to Ferrybridge in the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup at Woodlesford.

Bowling trailed to a penalty after just five minutes when goalkeeper Tom Carlisle brought down Brett Smith.

They equalised when Andrew Kenyon passed wide to Joe Jagger, whose cross was superbly headed home by strike partner Chris Wood.

But Ferrybridge grabbed a second-half winner when a defender picked up the ball in his own half and ran on and on before slotting past Carlisle.

League action saw Bowling get over their cup disappointment by moving four points clear of Thornton at the top of the Premier Division with a 6-0 win over Peel Park.

Jagger grabbed a brace and further goals from Chris Wood, Joe Wood, Glyn Hurst and Michael O'Brien sealed a comfortable victory.

Thornton could only draw 1-1 at League Cup finalists Thornbury Celtic and it now looks like a two-horse race for the title between Bowling and White Eagles, who clash in the last match of the season.

Third-placed Eagles drew 2-2 against Sandy Lane, with Steve Hollingsworth and Trinity Brown on target for the high-fliers.

Five clubs are in with a chance of taking the Division One title, with only four points separating them.

Leaders Allerton had a 5-1 win at Prospect, while third-placed Swaine Green enjoyed a 10-1 romp against bottom side Red Lion but had to thank keeper Aaron Sunderland as he saved a penalty for the second week in succession and also kept out the follow-up shot when his side were losing. Sam Bradley, Aaron Basi, Adam Chahill and Andy Phillips grabbed braces for the winners.

It is a similar story in Division 1A with three clubs vying for the championship. Thornton United Reserves are top on goal difference from Queensbury, with Eccleshill three points back but with a game in hand on the top two.

Division 1B title-chasers Lyceum gave their goal difference a massive boost by winning 15-1 against George Hotel Reserves, with Aaron Heywood hitting five goals and Glyn Beal grabbing a hat-trick.

Second-placed Lyceum had ended Westwood Park's late challenge when they beat them 5-1 in midweek.
