WHITE Eagles played St John Fisher from Dewsbury in a West Riding County Cup tie that had already fallen foul of the weather on three previous occasions.

The tie was switched to Bradford and played on 3G to ensure the game went ahead, with the Eagles running out 3-2 victors.

Both teams started well and Eagles took an early lead as their pace up front caught out the Dewsbury team’s backline and Jordan Missin finished well after great work from Marcus Edwards.

Eagles began to dominate the game before a red card was shown to Trinity Brown to leave the Bradford side with a tougher task ahead of them.

The flow of the game did not change much after the dismissal as the home team still looked to press and control proceedings while going close to increasing their lead on a few occasions.

St John’s still looked dangerous coming forward and had a number of shots straight at the keeper while their best effort was a deflected shot that keeper Alex Smith did well to turn round the post.

With barely a minute to half-time, St John's were awarded a free kick which was expertly dispatched into the top right hand corner of the goal.

Eagles were deflated by losing a goal so late in the half but did not let their heads go down and could have scored a second almost straight from the kick off as Edwards had a shot well saved.

The game was fast and Eagles were having to work hard both defensively and going forward as the visitors kept the pressure on the Bradford team.

Smith spread himself well at the back post to thwart an open goal for St John’s and from the resulting corner, Eagles broke down the park to find Edwards who finished, via a looping deflection, to send the Bradford side ahead again.

The Dewsbury team fought back and a dangerous cross into the box was turned into his own goal by Danny Brown.

Ten-man Eagles were still fighting and controlling a lot of the ball with mammoth performances in the middle of the park from Steven Bargh, Nathan Woodward and Aaron Metcalfe.

The front two of Edwards and Missin were a constant threat and it was Missin who got his second of the game and the eventual winner as Eagles earned a well-earned victory to see them progress into the next round where they face Ferrybridge Progressive WMC.

In the West Riding County Trophy, Thornton United second team were beaten 5-1 by Shepherd's Arms despite a goal from Steve Wilkinson.

One Premier division match beat the weather as Bradford Moor faced league champions Thornton United but that was abandoned by referee Steve Gatenby.
