BRADFORD'S interest in the FA Sunday Cup is over for another season – despite West Bowling taking the lead against Hardwick Social at Stockton Town.

Nick Cowling edged the Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division visitors in front after 25 minutes of the third-round tie but the Stockton Sunday League hosts levelled before the interval.

Both teams had opportunities to score again in the second half but the tie was decided in extra time, chiefly via a hotly-disputed penalty for Hardwick five minutes into the additional period.

This was converted and the hosts made it 3-1 five minutes later, before West Bowling pushed forward and left gaps which the home side exploited to win 5-1.

The big story of the weekend, however, was Grass Greener United of Division One, who beat Premier champions Thornton United 5-0 in the second round of the Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup.

Grass Greener, unbeaten this season and already through to the last 16 of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup, dominated from the start.

They created lots of chances, Paul Naylor converting one after 23 minutes and adding a second before the break.

Two minutes into the second half, Matty Regan scored Grass Greener's third from a James Small corner, before Rob Coulter – who had missed chances in the first half – got onto the scoresheet on the hour mark after strong work from Adam Boocock.

Naylor completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes with a well-taken strike from the edge of the area to complete the home team's passage to round three, where they will again have top-flight opposition in Peel Park.

Peel Park enjoyed a 7-1 victory over a spirited Wrose Albion, with the Division 1B basement boys taking the lead via veteran striker Darryl Walker.

But man of the match Alan Morley junior soon equalised for the Premier outfit and went on to score three more, with Ryan Dunne, Jimmy Gorman and Steve Jarocky adding the other goals.

There was some good news for Thornton United as their second team progressed to the quarter-finals of the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup with a 3-0 third-round victory over George Hotel.

Eli Petchak grabbed a brace for the visitors, with Josh Milner getting the other goal.

There was only one Premier Division match, with Buttershaw Celtic defeating Bolton Woods 6-1. Lee Smith scored five of them and completed his hat-trick after just 20 minutes.

Dan O'Donnell got the other goal for the home team, who are now in the mix at the top of the table chasing Thornton United.
