ONCE again the Bradford Sunday Alliance League's scheduled programme of fixtures and West Riding County Sunday Cup and Trophy matches was wrecked by incessant rain.

The downpours during the week left pitches waterlogged and the only two league games to survive were on the 3G pitches around the district.

One game that did get played on grass was the County Sunday Trophy third-round tie between Sunday Alliance League Division 1B rivals Grass Greener United and Toller.

The home team took the initiative from the kick-off and roared into a 3-0 lead inside the first five minutes with strikes from Andy Howland, Matty Reagan and Rob Coultree.

The visitors pulled two goals back before the interval through Kamaran Khan and Waqus Khan.

There were also two dismissals before the interval as a player from each team was sent off.

After 50 minutes, the visitors were awarded a disputed penalty that was converted by Kamaran.

On the hour mark, after consistent pressure, two goals within five minutes put United in front again through Lewis Dean and a shot going in off a visiting defender.

Grass Greener then had another player dismissed and they were down to nine men as Kamaran went off injured.

The visitors had used all their substitutes, which meant both teams finished the match with nine men.

Howland added his second in a breakaway goal in the last minute to give the home team a convincing 6-3 victory in the end after a very entertaining match from these two Alliance teams.

In Division 1A, Bradford Vale returned to winning ways by beating Socks Lane Rangers 6-1.

Goals from Lewis Witter, Luke Gallagher, Paddy Dunne, Chris Dunne, Tom Heath and an own goal completed the rout.

There will be changes to next week's programme, with Bradford & District, West Riding County Cup and Trophy matches taking preference over league matches. All clubs have been informed of the changes.

The draw for the League Cup semi-finals have been made and in the Senior Cup, West Bowling will play either Sandy Lane or White Eagles and Thornbury Celtic will face Buttershaw Celtic.

In the Intermediate Cup, Grass Greener United or Eccleshill will tackle Junction FC while the winners of Lyceum and Horse & Groom tie will play Queensbury.

All semi-finals will be played at Rawdon Meadows with 11am kick-offs.
