MARCUS Edwards scored a late winner as White Eagles shook off dogged Halifax visitors Carrington to win their West Riding County FA Sunday Cup first-round tie 4-3.

Carrington are top of their league competition and took the lead when a ball into the box was well finished into the corner of the net.

Eagles responded and had a couple of chances that were well saved before a corner to the near post was bulleted home by Trinity Brown.

The second half started well for the hosts, who scored within the first two minutes as they went in front for the first time with a strike by Jordan Missin.

Carrington then equalised when a ball broke on the penalty spot to one of their strikers, who finished well.

The game was proving end-to-end and it was the home team who again went in front as Missin added his second goal.

Eagles found themselves level once more after a disputed goal as a Carrington striker appeared to use his hand to score but protests fell on deaf ears from the referee.

However, the hosts were not finished as Edwards stepped up to seal victory and earn White Eagles another home tie against Seacroft WMC.

Bradford Sunday Alliance League domestic action included a mixture of second and third-round ties in the Senior League Cup, sponsored by GOALS soccer.

Premier Division outfit Buttershaw Celtic eased past Division One opponents Aire Athletic 6-1.

An all-Premier tie saw Peel Park beat Ventus United 4-2, with substitute Matthew Dempsey bagging a stunning hat-trick which included two long-range crackers.

Westwood Park were at home to Grass Greener United in the Supplementary Cup but the visitors won 3-2.

The hosts led inside two minutes but the visitors equalised through Chris White moments later.

James Smail then put United ahead on the stroke of half-time but the hosts equalised ten minutes after the interval.

The game looked to be heading for penalties when an unfortunate own goal from Patsy Hollinger of Westwood in the 88th minute clinched victory for Grass Greener.
