THERE will be a new name on the GOALS-sponsored Bradford Sunday Alliance League Senior Cup when Division One giant-killers White Eagles take on Stanningley Albion at Manningham Mills next month.

The Eagles met high-flying Premier Division side Thornton United for the second time in knockout competition this season and were looking for revenge after losing by the only goal of the match in the Bradford & District Sunday Senior Cup.

The underdogs, playing in unfamiliar green and black, came flying out of the blocks at Rawdon Meadows and took their higher-ranked opponents by surprise.

Thornton were providing their own set of dangers but without really threatening the goal and the Eagles, with the experienced Alex Nesovic causing problems up front, took a deserved lead as Jamil Campbell-Joseph finished well after creating the chance himself.

The woodwork came to White Eagles' rescue from one Thornton shot but then a free-kick on the edge of the box also hit the woodwork and this time Josh Milner was on hand to hit home the rebound.

Thornton applied further pressure but the Eagles defence stood firm and they regained the lead just before the interval when a shot from Craig Smith deceived the keeper.

Andy Smith in the Eagles goal then proved to be the hero of the second half as his saves helped set up a clash with Stanningley, who edged a 3-2 thriller against George Hotel.

Albion were the stronger team in the first half and strikes by Andy Kenyon and Ritchie Banks gave them a 2-0 lead, only for Hotel to pull one back on the stroke of half-time.

Banks added his second to restore the two-goal cushion and although Hotel netted again to set up a nervy finish, Stanningley were able to hold on.

There was also plenty of league action and the Premier Division title race was blown wide open as Buttershaw Celtic, playing their final match of the season, hit double figures to stun leaders Peel Park 10-4 with a brilliant display of finishing.

Lee Smith returned from a six-match absence and terrorised the Park back four to finish with five goals, while James Brennan added a brace.

West Bowling climbed to third with a narrow 3-2 win over Sandy Lane and can now overtake Peel Park at the summit if they win their two games in hand.

Lane defended stoutly before taking the lead just before the interval and made it 2-1 after Ben Kendall had headed home a Jordon Hagyard free-kick to equalise.

Manager John Fagan introduced substitutes Joe Brooksbank and Joe Wood and their fresh legs started to open up the visitors' defence, which led to top scorer Damien Melvin levelling things up again before Aidan Day found the top corner for a sublime winner.

Oakenshaw extended their lead at the top of Division One as they brushed aside Bolton Woods Socials 7-2 and second-placed Swaine Green slipped up 4-3 against Bradford Phoenix.

Grass Greener United finished off their season by edging out Apperley Bridge in a nine-goal Division 1B thriller as secretary Paul Jarvis rolled back the years with a decisive hat-trick.

Bridge hit back from 4-1 down to draw level but Jarvis netted a last-minute winner to add to earlier strikes by Rob Coulter and Matt Regan.

Division 2A title favourites Mill Lane maintained their unbeaten record – but only just as a Steve Hollingworth treble helped get the better of Wrose Bull 4-3.

Junction Wyke continued their push up the table as a man-of-the-match performance by Gareth Hopkins in defence, plus a hat-trick by Jason Thompson, earned a 4-1 win against Bankfoot Lions. Liam Stewart completed the Junction tally as Carl Bartley replied.

Station Hotel effectively tied up the Division 3A title with a 7-0 victory over Victoria, with Tyrone Depass hitting a hat-trick and Dan Doyle adding a double.
