BRADFORD Sunday Alliance League interest in the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup is over for another season.

Division One title favourites Oakenshaw were the last men standing and bowed out 5-3 to Leeds Combination League Premier Division big-hitters HT Sports in the quarter-finals.

The well-organised cup holders were 3-0 ahead by half-time and then 5-1 in front before Oakenshaw replied twice.

There was midweek action in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup as Division One outfit White Eagles missed an early penalty against Premier high-fliers Thornton United on the 3G pitch at Allerton Academy.

Eagles later paid for this as United player Deroy White scored the only goal of their quarter-final.

Buttershaw Celtic and West Bowling switched Sunday's last-eight tie to Bowling's Emsleys Recreation Ground to beat the inclement weather and the move paid off.

Damian Melvyn scored a goal in either half to add to strikes by Nick Cowling and Aidan Day to earn Bowling a 4-1 fourth-round victory after Lee Smith had put Celtic ahead inside five minutes.

There was also fourth-round action in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup, with Lyceum triumphing 9-3 over Great Horton and Mill Lane defeating Junction 5-0, with Steve Hollingsworth's brace adding to strikes by Damien Rushworth, Dave Pemberton and Liam Charles.

There was league action as well, with Premier Division leaders Stanningley Albion edging a 2-1 win against fourth-placed Bolton Woods on a very heavy pitch.

An Andy Kenyon free-kick put the leaders in front after 30 minutes and Luke Hunter doubled the advantage just before the interval.

The visitors replied five minutes after the restart via a David Nelson header and it then needed defensive resilience by Albion to see the game out.

In the only other top-flight match, Thornton United and Peel Park – who were third and second respectively before kick-off – swapped positions after a ten-goal thriller at Manningham Mills.

Thornton were three goals behind with half an hour to go but won 7-3 with the help of three penalties.

Hat-tricks by White and Dave Wilson (all from the spot), plus a Dan Cunningham strike, proved too much for the visitors.

In Division One, visitors Swaine Green were commanding from start to finish at Bradford Horton Sports as they climbed to the table summit.

Green won 6-1 to put the disappointing defeat at Wyke Rangers behind them. Man of the match Simon McQuiston grabbed a hat-trick but the goal of the game was scored by Elliott Holmes from 35 yards.

They were also helped by Albion Sports captain Asif Hussain being drafted in at the back, his experience and organisation proving crucial.

The Manningham pitch resembled a bog in some areas against White Eagles but was passed fit by the referee, Manningham going 2-0 ahead against visitors who were down to the bare bones due to injuries and other absences.

Eagles got back into it via a penalty, given for a soft handball, but Manningham made it 3-1 before Eagles converted another spot-kick to make for a nervy finish.

George United won 4-0 in their Division 3B mid-table battle against Fiddlers Three United, Danny Pattison netting a hat-trick and Steven Stansfield a single.
