SANDY Lane are through to the fourth round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup after winning a thriller.

They were 4-4 at full-time at Halifax Sunday League Premier Division outfit Carrington, and 5-5 after extra-time before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Keifer Oxley (2), Stuart Cotterill (2) and Danny Hook scored for Lane before the shoot-out, where Marcus Davey, Marshall Campbell, Cotterill and Andrew Sadowskyj were spot-on.

Sandy Lane will now be at First Division favourites Oakenshaw in an all-Bradford Sunday Alliance League last-16 tie on Sunday, January 5.

With a blanket ban on all Bradford Council pitches, the Alliance's league programme was decimated, with only three matches being played.

But Sporting Pudsey, who play on a Leeds Council pitch, got the go-ahead for their game against Saltaire Rangers in Division 1B.

Rangers, looking to bounce back from their defeat to bottom-of-the-table Wrose Albion the previous week, re-introduced Farris Emara after a lengthy suspension.

Rangers took the lead after ten minutes when central midfielder Kevin Sanasy hit a 25-yard right-footer into the bottom corner.

Pudsey looked dangerous on the counter-attack, and striker Omar Caines rounded the keeper, only to have a defender clear his shot off the line.

Rangers had a goal disallowed from a free-kick as they had not waited for the referee's whistle but they went 2-0 ahead early in the second half via Robert Kelly.

Pudsey introduced winger Jordan Wright and his impact was instant. Caines was twice brought down for Emara to net penalties but it was looking as if Sporting Pudsey would exploit tiring Saltaire’s lack of substitutes.

However, Pudsey gave possession away and William Lowther lobbed keeper Joe Culverhouse from 18 yards out to make it 3-2.

Caines twice went close, Pudsey had four corners in the last five minutes and Saltaire's keeper saved a long-range volley that was destined for the corner of the goal as Rangers held on to win.

Division 2A leaders Clayton Village Sports & Social beat bottom-of-the-table Bankfoot Lions 3-0, with goals from Liam Rushworth (2) and Liam Holmes.

Thornton United Reserves have strengthened their case in a five-horse race for the Division 2B title after a 5-2 win at Eccleshill WMC.

The second string went into half-time with a 3-0 advantage, thanks to Stephen Wilkinson (2) and a Dave Wilson free-kick and, although the clubmen scored twice, Gavin Meakin and Jimmy Panter replied to send fourth-placed United level on points with Lyceum and Salthorn WMC.
