PEEL Park may have had players out of position but they still won their all-Bradford Sunday Alliance League tie 2-1against Stanningley Albion in the West Riding County Cup.

Albion's Woodhall Park pitch was declared unfit so the match was moved to Hough End.

The hosts took an early lead through Richie Banks, only for evergreen Allan Morley senior to continue his rich vein of goal-scoring form by netting a deserved equaliser after following up an Alex Cusack shot.

With ten minutes left, Mark Saunders – a centre back playing further forward – found himself at the back post to collect a Cusack pass and fired home the winner for Peel.

Top scorer Adam Turner, in central defence for the day, put in a dominant performance as his side edged out their top-flight rivals.

The other all-Alliance contest saw Division One side Oakenshaw beat Division 1B opponents Toller 3-2, while another third-round tie pitted Premier Division Thornton United against Halton Moor.

The visitors from Leeds took an early lead but Thornton equalised before the break through a fine Dave Wilson effort.

There was no further scoring in the 90 minutes but in extra-time, Moor moved into the lead again, only for Nathan Woodward to equalise.

The match looked destined for a penalty shoot-out but the visitors got the winner in the closing stages when Thornton failed to defend a corner.

West Bowling's pitch passed an early-morning inspection and they defeated Claro League visitors Harrogate 6-2, Damian Melvin's early goal being cancelled out by a penalty.

Chris Wood made it 2-1 and Harrogate were finished off by more goals from Melvin (3) and Wood, getting their second in the final five minutes. Andy Bailey had three assists for Bowling.

White Eagles were beaten by Woodman Batley Carr and at one point were four goals down. The Bradford team fought back to make the final score 5-3 and they were looking the better team by the end.

There was also an all-Alliance clash in the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy, with Mill Lane 2004 of Division 2A defeating Division 2B side Bradford Vale 7-1. Steve Hollingsworth hit four goals and Paul Hague three.

Lyceum, also from Division 2B, were even more prolific at Arkwright Street, thrashing Huddersfield visitors Deighton WMC 10-1. Arran Heywood netted seven, with Phil Glennon, Simon Wilson and Glynn Beale also on target.

There was also some league action, second-bottom Napoleons Casino winning 5-2 at fellow strugglers Bradford Moor to increase the margin between the Premier Division bottom two to eight points.

Meanwhile, Allerton are back on top of Division One after a 4-1 victory over Bradford Phoenix, title favourites Oakenshaw being on County Cup duty.

Swaine Green remain fourth after a 5-2 home win over next-to-bottom Wyke Rangers, Mark Buckenham (2), Simon McQuiston, top scorer Kyle Shah and Elliott Holmes netting – the latter player's being the best as he blasted a free-kick home from 25 yards. Man of the match was skipper Sam Bradley, who pulled the strings in midfield.

Division 1A leaders Undercliffe Cricket Club made it 34 goals in eight days with an 11-1 defeat of Towngate.

Grass Greener United had to be content with a 3-1 victory at Sporting Pudsey in Division 1B, Rob Coulter bagging a double and Jack Holland getting the other.

Thornton United Reserves made the Division 2B title chase more interesting with a 2-0 defeat of leaders Salthorn WMC, man of the match Brad Asquith getting both goals as the clubmen had two players sent off.

Eccleshill are the new front-runners after beating Park 6-4. Nick Walker, returning after injury, bagged a brace for the winners – as did Matty Holmes, with Mathew Hannan and Jonathan Hicks completing the tally.

Turf are off the bottom of Division 2A after a 3-2 home win over new basement boys Bankfoot Lions, Andy Robinson setting up the first two goals with a corner and a cross.

James Place, Wes McCullen, with a towering header, and Mathew Taylor, with a fine individual goal, netted for Turf, who had to withstand long periods of pressure in the second half.
