Two late goals enabled Buttershaw White Star to complete a Bradford Sunday Alliance League double as they denied West Bowling for the second time in a week with a 3-1 victory in the Senior Cup final.

A comfortable 2-0 midweek win over their closest rivals had enabled White Star to clinch the Premier Division championship.

But the league’s showpiece conclusion to the season at Manningham Mills was a much closer affair, with Bowling this time giving as good as they got until the late drama.

Defences were on top in a first half of few chances and for the majority of the second period the two clubs continued to cancel each other out in a midfield battle.

The deadlock was broken after an hour when Buttershaw were awarded a penalty by referee Danny Bennett.

And although Bowling keeper Ashley Onitaro went the right way, he could not keep out Mark Bett’s shot which was low and hard into the right-hand corner.

There were just 12 minutes to go when a spell of pressure from Bowling saw Chris Wood score to bring his side level and at this point extra time was looking likely.

But the scores remained level for just two minutes before Steve Hollingsworth nudged White Star in front again.

And with Bowling pushing for a second equaliser, they inevitably left gaps at the back and substitute Teboho Mpala made the game safe for White Star with virtually the last kick off the match.

This wrapped up a domestic league and cup double for Buttershaw, who have yet to be beaten by a team from Bradford this season.

Now they are going for a treble as they again face West Bowling in a repeat of last season’s Bradford & District Sunday Senior Cup final at Thackley on Thursday (7pm), with White Star looking to defend the title.

This will be the final fixture of the domestic calendar for Bradford Sunday clubs, although Stanningley Albion have reached the Leeds & District Sunday Senior Cup final against HT Sports to be played on Thursday, May 22 at Elland Road.

Stanningley finished third in the Premier Division behind Buttershaw and West Bowling.

Weekend league action featured a limited number of fixtures, with Stanningley beaten 2-1 at mid-table Wyke Wanderers in the only Premier encounter.

The hosts’ decisive goals came from Clive Hurst and James Cooke, who has announced his retirement from the game.

Wyke Rangers cemented second place in Division 1A with a resounding 8-0 victory over Dog & Gun.

Meanwhile, Swaine Green made sure of the Division 1B title ahead of Red Lion with a 4-1 stroll against Great Northern.

Aaron Heywood got Green off to a great start with the first goal before Elliot Holmes took over with a hat-trick, including a stunning long-range effort.

But Sam Bradley took the man of the match award as Green ended three points clear of Red Lion at the summit.
