Brighouse Town will face the sternest of tests on Saturday as they host leaders Retford United in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Town have done well under Paul Quinn and are currently eighth. They trail their visitors by 11 points but have played one game less.

Brighouse have seen their last two Saturday league games postponed but they have had a run-out in the League Cup.

The victory over Division One side Emley was not exactly confidence boosting but it gave them much-needed match sharpness and saw them progress to the next round.

Liversedge are also in line for a tough game as they head to second-placed Bridlington Town.

Ten places separate the two sides but the gulf in points terms is a massive 25 as Brid have registered almost twice as many as Sedge, despite having played two games fewer.

Thackley are just one place and two points behind rivals and neighbours Brighouse but they will be hard pressed to close that gap on Saturday when they host sixth-placed Tadcaster Albion.

It is a big game that could go one of two ways for Vince Brockie’s men.

A win would see them claw their way back up the table against one of their close rivals while defeat could signal it is time for Brockie to reshape his squad.

There is also a big game in Division One, as Albion Sports look to halt the recent rise of Handsworth when they visit the second-placed outfit.

Albion were Division One leaders when the bad weather kicked in but have slid to fifth as a consequence of not playing a league game since Boxing Day.

The carrot on the stick for both clubs is that they have the games in hand to overhaul new leaders Pontefract Collieries.

Eccleshill United have also not given up on their promotion dream and they will be expected to get back to winning ways when they make the short trip to Yorkshire Amateur.

The Eagles are flying high in seventh and have games in hand on many of their rivals.
