THE severe weather lasted throughout the final day of February, with the frost and ice continuing to play havoc with sporting fixtures, and it was no surprise that Albion Sports and Eccleshill United both had games postponed.

The two near neighbours were scheduled to be in action in the Northern Counties East League, but all four matches across that league were called off before lunchtime.

On a day when three Scottish Premier League games were shelved and Rochdale played their Emirates FA Cup replay against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in increasing difficult conditions, it was no surprise that two semi-pro games in the north of England fell foul of the weather.

Albion were denied a potential maximum as they were due to host basement boys Clipstone in the NCE Premier Division.

Clipstone have banked just one point all season and were spanked 6-0 at home by Thackley at the weekend.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s Albion Lions would have gone above local rivals Liversedge had they taken the three points.

The new date for Clipstone’s trip to Throstle Nest is Wednesday, March 28.

The Eagles were due to head to AFC Emley in Division One and could have cut leaders Knaresborough Town’s advantage.

Eccleshill remained in second place despite Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Swallownest, and they could have cut into Knaresborough’s nine-point cushion, temporarily at least.

The leaders, Eccleshill and third-placed Grimsby Borough, who are just one point behind Sean Reagan’s men, all have 11 games remaining.

The Eagles will have to make the journey to Emley on Wednesday March, 21 after last night’s postponement.
