ALBION Sports got back to winning ways on a Saturday of friendly fixtures that were not kind to the area’s non-league sides.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s side ran out 2-1 winners at a Yorkshire Amateur side that has strengthened over the summer.

Danny Facey returned to play his first pre-season game for the Lions and scored the winner in the second half.

Alex Cusack had given Albion a fourth-minute lead with a fine individual goal but the prolific Ashley Flynn, who the Ammers signed from AFC Emley in the close season, levelled late in the first half before Facey struck on the hour after good work from Omar Habeeb.

Sandhu said: “It was a good win against a very good Yorkshire Amateur side, and it was nice to see Danny getting his first run out.

“He’s had an operation on his hand and been away on holiday but he came back with a bang. He needs games but he looked as good as ever and we got a bit of pride back after last week.”

Albion had suffered a 4-2 defeat at Silsden the previous Saturday but there was no joy for the Cobbydalers at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium at the weekend as they went down 1-0 to Evo-Stik League outfit Clitheroe.

The Lancastrians had to wait for their win but Ollie Crankshaw’s late goal was enough to see the Blues over the line.

Farsley Celtic were held to a second consecutive goalless draw at Throstle Nest as Ossett Albion survived, with  the Celts twice hitting the woodwork.

Adam Lakeland’s men had ended Vanarama National League North neighbours Bradford Park Avenue’s 100 per cent pre-season record the week before but were expected to beat a Unicorns side that they left behind following last season’s promotion.

Isaac Bladwin hit the bar in the first half and a 20-yard free-kick from Luke Parkincame back off the foot of a post  in the second half, with the rebound being hit right at Albion keeper Aaron Murphy.

Lakeland said: “Not a great display from us but I’m pleased with another clean sheet.

"We lacked that cutting edge with Adam Priestley and James Walshaw both missing but we go again on Tuesday.”

Farsley travel to Glossop North End on Tuesday in what is another busy night of friendly action.

Thackley and Campion played out a tight and competitive derby at the Mitton Group Stadium of Dennyfield, sharing the bragging rights after a 1-1 draw.

Both goals came late on as Brandon Hammond gave the Dennyboys an 88th-minute lead before Danny Stocker levelled a minute later with a stunning free-kick.

Liversedge were the only other winners as they travelled to Northallerton Town and triumphed 3-0.

Dave Boardman broke the deadlock in the 14th minute and Roy Fogarty doubled the visitors’ lead just after the half-hour.

Boardman bagged a brace as he netted the only goal of the second half.
