ALBION Sports boss Kulwinder Sandhu feels his promising young goalkeeper will go a long way in the game.

Kyle Trennery was handed the number one jersey when Sports' more experienced keeper Jack Bentley suffered a broken finger. Sandhu had no qualms about trusting in the teenager Trennery and his confidence has proved to have been well founded.

Sandhu said: "Kyle is a great prospect and how he's not at a pro club astounds me. He was with Bradford City but they released him and he's been at Halifax Town but nothing seems to have come of that.

"I think he will be a very good keeper and I'm sure he'll play in the full-time game in his career. For a 17-year-old, he's very confident and he commands his area.

"He's a brave lad as well. It doesn't matter who is coming up against him, he stands his ground and makes the attacker think, which disturbs them.

"His agility is good and his judgement as well. He knows when to come, when to stand firm and when to come out to claim a cross, either to clutch it in or to make a good punch clear."

Trennery has helped his side bank some points and has been a key figure in their run to the semi-finals of the League Cup during a coming-of-age season.

Sandhu said: "Kyle hasn't shied away. It's been the opposite, if anything, and he's improved under pressure. He has made some great saves in tight games that have helped us win or prevented us from losing.

"With Jack being out long term with a bad injury for a keeper, Kyle has played a lot of games and we've really needed him in the cup games because the only other keeper at the club is Mark Bower, who is our keeper/coach and he's cup-tied.

"If someone puts their arm around Kyle and takes him under their wing, giving him proper coaching by a top ex-league keeper, he will go all the way. He is that good."
