ON A day when half of the games in the division were postponed, Thackley consolidated their 13th place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League's top tier with a good home win over Garforth Town.

The Dennyboys broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through skipper Pat McGuire, and they stretched their lead when Ben Cohen netted just after the half-hour mark.

However, the Miners hit back when Spencer Lund halved the deficit three minutes before half-time.

It remained a close game but the visitors couldn’t find an equaliser, and Tom Dugdale made it 3-1 to wrap up a victory that opened a ten-point gap between the clubs.

There was no joy for Eccleshill United, though, as they finished with ten men in a 2-1 defeat at Glasshoughton Welfare, with the home side leapfrogging them in the Division One table.

The Eagles took an early lead but centre back Jermaine Springer picked up a booking in each half, the second for a professional foul, and was dismissed with match poised at 1-1.

The home side’s Del Pollock had struck to cancel out Luke Harrop’s opener, which was scored in the sixth minute after Charlie Flaherty had laid it on a plate for him, and Pollock had the last word with an 87th-minute winner.

Eccleshill had battled well but the ten men tired and that allowed Glasshoughton to snatch all three points.

Kyle Shah had come on for Danny Metcalfe as Eagles boss Sean Regan made changes after Springer’s sending off, and there was a debut for Krishan Patel, another former Thackley man, as he was introduced from the bench late on.
