A STOPPAGE-time winner from substitute Ben Beckles earned THACKLEY an unlikely Premier Division victory against lowly Nostell MW in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

The Dennyboys and their 18th-placed visitors had battled well on a soft pitch in ludicrous weather.

The match started under a blue sky and in bright sunlight but, just 18 minutes in, the floodlights were in full glare as the darkening skies released flurries of snow and volleys of hail.

By half-time, the sun was out again as the teams disappeared down the tunnel all square at 1-1.

The home side had taken an early lead when Joe Brown fired in the rebound after Jerome White headed a Pat McGuire free-kick onto the underside of the bar.

Thackley probably edged the first 45 minutes but conceded a calamitous own goal on the stroke of half-time.

Centre backs Kris Hargreaves and White both closed in on a ball just outside the area, Hargreaves blasting his attempted clearance at his colleague and the ball cannoning past stunned keeper Dayle Coleing.

Nostell came out after the interval far more determined but the Dennyboys defended stoically and got their reward in the third minute of time added on.

Ben Cohen, also on as a substitute, ended a promising run with a shot that he dragged wide of the target but Beckles lashed the ball home.

ALBION SPORTS suffered a home defeat to in-form Maltby Main as their lack of consistency reared its head yet again.

They took the lead in the 39th minute with the only goal of the first half, a corner from Marcus Edwards being helped on by Aran Basi for Sam Bradley to launch himself at the ball to head home from close range.

A deflected Ryan Carroll shot brought the visitors level just before the hour and Maltby made sure of their fourth win on the bounce with two goals in the last 14 minutes, Josh Hemmingway netting after a defensive error before Carroll added his second.

LIVERSEDGE came from two goals down to earn a point from a relegation battle at Parkgate.

The home side led 2-0 at the break after Jordan Turner bagged a brace, his second coming from a penalty, but second-half goals from Vaughan Redford and Tom Jackson sealed Sedge's comeback.
