ALBION SPORTS clawed their way up to third in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division with a routine win over Armthorpe Welfare in midweek but the management team are disappointed that it took them so many games to get there.

Boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “We have a lot of good lads here that are technically very good players but we’re hit and miss at the moment.

“We are high in the table but we’ve played a lot of games so we’re in a bit of a false position. We’ve dropped stupid points, we could have been up there with the top teams because we have got points against all of them but slipped up against some of the lower teams.”

Albion have played six games more than leaders Tadcaster Albion and seven more than second-placed Worksop Town. However, the Lions do have the points on the board and are the only club to have breached the 40-point barrier so far.

Assistant manager Pav Singh said: “We do have a young team but they are good lads and I’ve known some of them for a long time.

“I coached Jordan Hendrie at Bradford City and Lewis Morgan. A few of the others have come through from the pro-side academies and then we’ve got young lads from Bradford local football.

“There are three of us doing the coaching now that Assad Qureshi is on board and our physio Ray is a qualified coach so he mucks in as well. I bring players in that I’ve worked with and Kully has brought a few in. He brought our keeper Jack Bentley, who is a very good prospect.

“Lee Elam is the senior member of our squad and he also helps with recruitment and coaching. We’re doing well but we’re looking for a bit of consistency which is always elusive when all of the players are so young.

“An older head in there often helps but we don’t have that and a lot of individual errors have cost us. But it will come – this is a learning curve for us really. We have to get the players to realise how important it is to win your battles on the pitch.

“If all of the individuals win their battles then the football will flow and the team will prosper.”
