ALBION Sports twice took the lead at Brigg Town but the basement outfit battled back to earn a point from a 3-3 draw in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Brigg’s new management team of Paul Grimes and Scott Helliwell have drafted 16 new players in as they look to reverse the club’s recent woes. The team that faced Albion was vastly different to the one Kulwinder Sandhu’s men had beaten in the fifth game of the season.

Marcus Edwards put Albion in front in the 35th minute when he side-footed home after playing a one-two with Alex Cusack.

However, Brigg trailed for just 90 seconds before Helliwell headed them level.

Helliwell’s joint manager Grimes was also on the scoresheet as he slotted home a penalty after Asif Hussain had fouled Craig Mitchell.

Grimes netted past Albion’s goalkeeping coach Mark Bower, who was in the side because No 1 Jack Bentley had suffered concussion in Wednesday’s draw with Pickering Town.

Hussain, who had the captain’s armband back with James Firth unavailable, set up Albion’s equaliser just before the break, lofting the ball to Matt Mathers over the home defence.

Mathers then netted his second when he met a superb cross from Edwards with a bullet header but again Albion couldn’t hold their lead for more than a few minutes, and Nathan Smith stabbed in a 66th-minute equaliser after a ball into the area wasn’t dealt with.

Brigg stay rooted the foot of the table but Tadcaster Albion reclaimed top spot after demolishing Thackley 4-0 at home.

An early brace from the Brewers’ former Bradford City youth Adam Baker put the skids under the Dennyboys.

He drilled in a low shot in the third minute and nodded in a second in the ninth minute after chipping Thackley keeper Tyler D’Cruz.

The Dennyboys’ striker Mike Garrod thought he had levelled the contest but he netted from an offside position between Baker’s early goals, and Thackley never recovered from that disastrous opening.

Taddy’s Josh Greening scored nine minutes into the second half, and Gregg Anderson wrapped up the scoring with a header following an 84th- minute corner.
