Thackley pulled off a shock in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division last night with a derby victory away from home over Albion Sports.

Sports are the highest placed of the area’s three clubs in the top tier, while the Dennyboys are the lowest following a poor first quarter of the season, but they were 3-1 victors at Throstle Nest.

The home side’s Asif Hussain hit the bar with a first-half penalty after former Thackley man Brice Tiani had been fouled in the area, but the visitors broke the deadlock eight minutes after the break.

Tristan Innes opened the scoring and the Dennyboys doubled their lead with a penalty of their own following a 70th-minute handball, Mike Garrod tucking it away.

However, Sports were back in the game soon after as Omar Habib halved the arrears but just two minutes later former Albion winger Tom Dugdale put the gloss on Thackley’s unlikely win with the visitors’ third.

Premier Division counterparts Liversedge exited the League Cup after a penalty shoot-out at Division One AFC Emley.

After a goalless first half, Brook Newton put Sedge in front, but the home side’s Ruben Jerome levelled in the 87th minute to take the second-round tie into extra-time.

Jordan Townsend scored in the first period to give Emley the lead for the first time, only for Vaughan Redford to level the tie once more.

The lead swung again in the second period of extra-time as Redford scored his second for Sedge but Townsend also ended up with a brace, netting in the last minute of extra time.

The home side progressed after edging the penalty shoot-out 3-2.
