PREMIER Division new boys Clipstone continue to enjoy their first season in the top flight of the Northern Counties East League and consolidated their place in the top eight with a 2-0 win at Thackley.

The visitors edged a tight contest with a goal in each half – both from defensive errors by the Dennyboys, with Brad Jones pouncing to lash in the first from the right corner of the area just after the half-hour mark.

That was the only goal of the first half, to which there was a controversial end as Thackley thought they were level through an own goal only to see an offside flag cut their celebrations short.

Clipstone loaded the midfield and looked to thread long through-balls to front-runners Henry Sibenge and Alec Denton.

They sealed their win in the 87th minute when Dennyboys keeper Tyler D'Cruz slipped on the edge of his area and Denton picked his spot as he fired past a covering defender.

Thackley spokesman Mick Lodge said: "There were some questions asked about why the goal wasn't given because it looked perfectly good to everyone. The refereeing assessor said at half-time that he would have given it."

Local rivals ALBION SPORTS kept on the tails of the leading pack with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Athersley Recreation.

Sam Bradley headed Sports in front following a 26th-minute corner but it was a brace from man-of-the-match Marcus Edwards that put the gloss on the win.

Albion next host Thackley on Wednesday night.

LIVERSEDGE suffered a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Bridlington Town.

Joel Sutton edged the visitors in front with the only goal of the first half before Callum Barron levelled for Sedge soon after the break.

Town then won at a canter with goals from Chris Jenkinson, Ashley Allanson and a second for Sutton.

ECCLESHILL UNITED lost 5-3 at Knaresorough Town after a entertaining game on national non-League day.

The home side's Blaine Hobson broke the deadlock early but Luke Harrop netted a late first-half brace to give the Eagles an interval lead.

George Eustance went one better with a second-half hat-trick or Town and Graham Whitehead was also on target for the home side, while Adam Turner's last-minute strike for the visitors wrapped up the scoring.
