IT WAS another week when the results lurched from the sublime to the ridiculous for Albion Sports.

Kulwinder Sandhu's men slumped to a 4-1 loss at Staveley MW in the Northern Counties East League but followed that with a 5-0 victory over Nostell MW in the second round of the League Cup at home on Wednesday.

Sandhu admitted: "That's where we are at the moment. We're inconsistent because we have a small squad, while a lot of the clubs in this league have either bigger budgets or more to offer.

"We have to rent a ground to stay at this level, so we don't even have our own base from which to build and make players feel part of the club.

"We have got a very good first team and can muster a strong bench when everyone's fit – but we haven't got the squad depth that most of our rivals have."

Josh Eastwood netted two superb strikes from outside the area against Nostell and Marcus Edwards added before the break. Half-time substitute Omar Habib made it 4-0 soon after the hour mark and Edwards wrapped up the scoring with his second goal of the night.

"It was a great performance, especially under the circumstances as I still had four big players out," said Sandhu.

"I had my captain James Firth out with his groin injury, Danny Cunningham pulled a hamstring against Clipstone and Matty Dalton and Lewis Morgan were also injured.

"We've missed Matt Mathers as well this season with his long-term injury. He sat on the bench but more to get him involved and make the numbers up really. I wouldn't have liked to risk him.

"Matt is nearly there but it's a knee injury and you can't rush them back when it could set him back months if it goes wrong.

"We miss his physical presence up front and he gives us a different option. Any club at our level would miss a player like Matt."
