A PROFLIGATE Albion Sports let two points slip through their fingers at home to Clipstone in an entertaining yet goalless Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division draw.

The home side dominated possession in the first half, although the visitors did look dangerous on the break.

Albion created the lion’s share of chances after the interval, with Marcus Edwards having two glorious opportunities to put the home side in the lead early on but both were squandered.

Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “I’m disappointed to have to settle for a draw but not putting our chances away has been a recurring theme for us this season.

“We’ve had a good start but it could have been a great start if we had taken some of the chances we’ve created.

"Clipstone had little spells in the game and our keeper has made one good save but I think they’ll be happy with the draw.”

The visitors were pleased to take a point but they were unhappy with the referee. The official didn’t have his best game and both sides suffered.

Clipstone striker Alec Denton had the ball in the net in the 33rd minute but the whistle had already gone for a foul in the build-up.

Edwards had two efforts on target saved but both lacked the power to trouble visiting keeper and skipper Steve Hernandez.

After the break, Edwards was one on one with Hernandez but saw the keeper block with his legs.

Minutes later, the Sports’ striker brilliantly chest-trapped the ball and raced in the area, only to fire wide.

Top-tier rivals THACKLEY earned their first win since the opening day of the season when they won at Maltby Main.

Joe Brown and Thomas Dugdale were on target for the Dennyboys to give them a first-half lead.

Farbod Yousefi halved their deficit just after the hour but the home side’s momentum was stalled when Nicky Darker was sent off 12 minutes from time after picking up his second yellow card.

Also in the top tier, LIVERSEDGE slumped to a 2-1 home reverse to basement outfit Brigg Town as the Zebras mounted a second-half comeback. Sedge led at the break thanks to Brandon Kane but Phil Winn and substitute Chris Rodgers scored to see Brigg earn their first away win of the season.

In Division One, ECCLESHILL UNITED let a two-goal lead slip but held on for a point against Selby Town, mainly due to keeper James Beck’s second-half man-of-the-match display.

Adam Turner fired the Eagles in front with a scorcher into the top corner, and Luke Harrop rounded the visitors’ keeper to slot in the second.

Selby battled well and got a foothold in the game when Craig Muirhead scored in the 68th minute, and Keane Parson salvaged a point with his equaliser five minutes from time.
