THE early-round draws for the FA Trophy were unkind to Farsley Celtic.

The Celts must host Evo-Stik Division One North rivals Prescot Cable in the preliminary round - with the winners away at Shaw Lane Aquaforce or New Mills.

The preliminary round ties will be played on Saturday, October 3 with the first qualifying round on the last Saturday of the month. Brighouse Town have been fortunate to get a bye into that round but face an away tie at either Ossett Town or Warrington Town.

The FA Vase sees another match-up between the local sides and the footballing hotbed of the north-east as many of the locals clubs face strong Northern League sides.

Eccleshill United, for whom the Vase is their only national competition this term after they failed to finish high enough to qualify for the FA Cup, host Heaton Stannington in the first qualifying round on Saturday September 5.

The Eagles are not the only local side to get home advantage as on same day Liversedge host Team Northumbria, Thackley are at home to Whickham while Teesside outfit Thornaby travel to Silsden.

The only club drawn away is Albion Sports but they will not have far to travel as their opponents will be Leeds-based Garforth Town.

The winners of that tie will face either Thackley or Whickham so the Dennyboys and Albion could clash in both the FA Vase and the FA Cup in the coming season.
