BRIGHOUSE Town have signed Albion Sports goal machine Danny Facey and Campion’s versatile Steve Hollingsworth as they look to build on their positive first season in the Evo-Stik League.

Paul Quinn’s men finished a creditable 14th in their first season in Division One North but the ambitions of the manager are matched by the club and they have backed him in the transfer market over the close season.

Quinn said: “I think we’re in the strongest position that we have been in recent seasons because we’ve got the squad fairly settled.

“After chasing promotion for a couple of years and then consolidating in the Evo-Stik League we can take stock. We have lost a few players but we earmarked six new players, we’ve now got four and we hope to get the other two over the line this week.

“We have released Tyrone Gay and it’s doubtful that Jacob Giles will still be with us as talks have stalled but we have a new keeper joining us. Dan Illingworth has come in – he’s a young player but a very promising one.

“We’ve also signed Danny Facey from Albion Sports, which we’re pleased and excited about, and Steve Hollingsworth. They will bring a lot to the squad.

“We also have a few players joining us on trial and then we’ll streamline for the new season.”

The Town boss does not want to lose the momentum of last term’s finish, which saw his side unbeaten in their last seven games with three wins and four draws.

Quinn added: “We have put a lot of emphasis on this pre-season and we’re looking forward to the season starting.

“I’m not the type to settle for things and think ‘we did okay last season in a higher league let’s go again’.

“I’m always looking to improve and everyone at the club is looking for the same, the people behind the scenes work really hard.

“We know we haven’t got the tradition or financial clout of some of the other clubs in this league but we’re looking for improvement and want to push on.”

Young winger Callum Charlton, meanwhile, has been snapped up by Sky Bet Championship neighbours Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers invited Charlton for a trial after the 18-year-old impressed while playing for Brighouse under-18s against Huddersfield’s youngsters.

Charlton spent six weeks with Huddersfield towards the back end of last season, making five appearances for their under-18 side and one for the under-21s and he has now penned a one-year deal with the option of another year.

The young prospect comes from Bradford and played for Eccleshill United and Liversedge before making his debut in the Evo-Stik League for Brighouse last season, while continuing to play a big part for their development side.
