ALBION SPORTS’ ten men almost held promotion-chasing Shaw Lane Aquaforce at Throstle Nest but ended up with nothing from a close game after a demoralising late goal.

The home side were reduced in numbers early on when the referee deemed Matt Morgan as the last man when he brought down an attacker.

Despite that set back Albion opened the scoring, James Firth on target midway through the first half.

They reached the interval with that slender lead intact and Karl Hall and Danny Facey were both denied by the visitors’ keeper early in the second half.

The extra man advantage finally began to tell, though, and Shaw Lane equalised just after the hour mark.

It was still hard going against a battling Albion side but the visitors grabbed their winner through James Eyles three minutes from time.

Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “I was happy with the performance but once again very disappointed with the big decisions. I thought it was a very harsh red card for what the ref interpreted as a professional foul.

“But even with ten men we played really well. We deservedly took the lead and had a couple of great chances to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half but they were good saves from their keeper.

“We are just not getting the rub of the green at the moment. Their manager said that we were a good side and he was glad to get all the three points, which was good of him.”

There was no joy for Albion’s Premier Division neighbours THACKLEY and LIVERSEDGE, with the Dennyboys held to a home draw and Sedge beaten on the road.

After a goalless first half at Dennyfield, Thackley took the lead against Garforth Town when Deroy White scored four minutes after the break.

Town’s Nick Black netted the equaliser on the hour but the draw cost both clubs ground in the table.

Tadcaster Albion went top after beating Sedge 3-0 but the visitors had their chances in the game.

Andy Wood had a goalbound shot blocked in the 13th minute and Joel Farrer hit the bar minutes later but Taddy went in two goals up through Josh Greening George Blissett.

Wood connected with a Declan Dawson cross in the second half but the home keeper saved the effort and midway through that second period Callum Ward wrapped up the scoring.

ECCLESHILL moved into the top four in Division One after a 4-2 victory at Teversal.

Viktor Balis looped in the Eagles’ first but they gave away a penalty midway through the first half and Dave Cockerill levelled from the spot. However, the Eagles were back in front after a penalty of their own, Matt Burrus on target.

James Voissey made it 3-1 but Cockerill bagged his brace on the hour.

The game was made safe by Adam McCabe in the 71st minute.
