FARSLEY are through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after a comfortable 2-1 win over Frickley Athletic.

Frickley play their football a division higher than Farsley in the Evo-Stik League structure but they are bottom of the higher tier and low on confidence.

In contrast, Neil Parsley’s men are riding high in their division and took the momentum from their league form into Saturday’s West Yorkshire derby.

The home side had to be patient and it was an own goal that opened the scoring in the 35th minute, Danny South turning the ball past his own keeper, but the hosts doubled their lead before the break through skipper Rob O’Brien.

Frickley may lack confidence but they showed their spirit, and former Guiseley player Gavin Allott netted a consolation for them in stoppage time.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN were also up against a club from the higher division but are out after a 2-1 home defeat to Ashton United.

Ryan Hall gave Town a 69th-minute lead but Matthew Chadwick equalised and Ashley Young netted Ashton’s winner deep into stoppage time.

In the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, LIVERSEDGE banked their first win of the season, edging past basement boys Barton Town Old Boys thanks to an Andy Wood strike.

However, ALBION SPORTS lost 3-2 at new leaders Heanor Town to a contentious stoppage-time winner. Heanor led through Sam Jones but an Asif Hussain penalty levelled the scores.

The home side still took a lead into the break after Gary Ricketts struck but Danny Facey equalised on the hour. Heanor’s dramatic winner came when Nathan Benger’s shot struck the bar and bounced down.

The assistant referee did not give the goal but was then overruled by the man in the middle.

ECCLESHILL UNITED continued their revival in Division One with a 2-1 home win over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic. Bantams legend John Hendrie’s son Jordan was on target for the Eagles, and John Rogers netted the winner nine minutes from time. Kane Reece had given Boro an early lead.

SILSDEN stay third in the North West Counties League Premier Division after edging a seven-goal thriller at Alsager Town.

Reiss Lee put the home side in front, only for his team-mate Jordan Elcock to level the scores with an own goal in the next minute.

The Cobbydalers went in front through Craig Nicholls but strikes from Craig Dove and Michael Blundell saw Alsager a goal to the good at half-time.

The visitors levelled from the spot, Andy Hill being on target after Zack Dale had been brought down, and Dale won it with two minutes remaining.
