Brighouse Town will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division when the travel to Long Eaton United on Saturday.

Paul Quinn’s men have spent the last two months relentlessly chipping away at the two clubs above them and were rewarded when, in the space of week, they leapfrogged both to sit proudly at the summit.

They go into the weekend just one point clear but with two games in hand.

However, they have not worked so hard in recent weeks to surrender their place so will be fully focused on holding their ground when they travel to their mid-table hosts.

The stakes are high for Brighouse as the only guarantee for promotion is to win the title, so Quinn, whose father Gerry managed Altrincham in the Conference Premier, will not allow complacency to creep in.

Town climbed to the top of the table following a win over Liversedge, and struggling Sedge face another tough derby on Saturday when they host Thackley.

The Dennyboys were promotion rivals of Brighouse until the turn of the year but they dropped off the pace and are currently 12th.

With Sedge fourth from bottom but holding a huge points advantage over the clubs below them, and with the Dennyboys in mid-table, there are only local bragging rights to play for at Clayborn this weekend.

Eighth-placed Albion Sports sit above Thackley and Liversedge but they trail Barton Town Old Boys, who are third, by 16 points as they journey to the Hull-based side.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men are on the final furlong as they have just three games remaining but they will be buoyant after a 6-2 home win last weekend.

Eccleshill United will be on even more of a high following their West Riding County Cup win in last night's final at Valley Parade.

The Eagles triumphed to lift the prestigious trophy against high-flying Conference North promotion- chasers Harrogate Town in a 1-0 victory after Marcus Edwards’ last-minute penalty strike.

The Eagles are back to the bread and butter of Division One this weekend when they host mid-table Rossington Main. No doubt the County Cup will be shown off to the fans before the game.
