Thackley were beaten 3-2 by Barton Town Old Boys following a dramatic last-minute winner on an eventful Northern Counties East League afternoon at Dennyfield.

The hosts got back into a Premier Division game they had led with a penalty eight minutes from time, although Thackley caretaker boss Andy Patterson was dismissed from the dugout following the award of that spot-kick.

Patterson had seen midfielder Ryan Cooper’s deliberate handball but disagreed with the referee’s interpretation of the offence. Cooper was shown just a yellow card and in his vociferous protestations, Patterson encroached onto the pitch.

Following a goalless first half, Mike Garrod fired the Dennyboys in front six minutes into the second half. Barton were level when a Cooper free-kick came back off the angle and was played back in for skipper Ashley Dexter to net from close range.

Gareth Barlow’s goal edged the visitors in front before Matt Morgan drilled home the penalty to equalise, only for Scott Phillips to latch on to a through ball at the death to lob over stranded home keeper Ben Higginson.

It was a better day for neighbours Brighouse Town as they consolidated second place with a 5-2 home win over fourth-placed Worksop Parramore, while leaders Tadcaster Albion suffered a surprise home loss to struggling Glasshoughton Welfare.

Tom Matthews gave Brighouse an early lead and added the third goal after skipper Leon Henry had netted the home side’s second.

Matthews completed his hat-trick in the second half and an Ernest Boafo penalty, after Matthews had been fouled, saw the hosts 5-0 ahead.

They were denied a clean sheet as Sam Hewitt netted an own goal and Lee Whittington added Worksop’s late second.

Albion Sports also won easily at home, with Danny Facey (two) brother Delroy, Elliot Holmes, skipper Asif Hussain with a penalty and substitute Levi Maturine on target in a 6-2 victory over Staveley MW.

It was a tough afternoon for struggling Liversedge, who lost 5-0 at Heanor Town, but Eccleshill United warmed up for Wednesday night’s West Riding County Cup final at Valley Parade with a 4-0 away win.

The Eagles romped to victory at Hallam in Division One with two Marcus Edwards goals, one a penalty, plus efforts from Adam McCabe and Doug Stevenson.
