Campion remain premier cup side

While Huddersfield-based clubs took the plaudits in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division, there was yet more cup success for Campion.

They picked up the Premier Division Cup for the third successive season by beating Lower Hopton 2-0 thanks to goals from Karl Trennery and Chima Manondo.

Campion's hat-trick of wins in the Premier Division Cup equals the feat achieved by Thackley in 1961-63 and by Dudley Hill Athletic in 1975-77.

But the Manningham side have to win again for the next two years to equal Salts' record of five successive victories achieved from 1951-55.

Campion ended the season in sixth place in the league as Bay Athletic, Storthes Hall and Meltham Athletic took the top three places.

Defending champions Wibsey looked likely to be relegated for most of the season before putting together a run of four wins and a draw in their final five games to ensure their place for another season.

Keighley Shamrocks' stay in the top flight lasted for only one season as they gained only five wins and three draws from their 30 games.

They are relegated along with Tyersal, who were dragged into the drop zone late in the season when they could only gain five points from their final seven fixtures and slipped back into Division One for the first time in seven seasons.

In Division One, Kirkburton and Marsden booked promotion to the top flight. Kirkbur-ton, who took only one point from their first three games, ended the season with an unbeaten run of 23 league matches.

Marsden edged out South Bradford after the Holme Wood side lost their final two games.

Bronte Wanderers, in only their second season in the league, finished in fourth place, while Rawdon Old Boys returned to the lower division after only one season.

They were joined by Farnley, who won only one of their final 11 games after being among the promotion favourites at the turn of the year.

Kirkburton completed the double by lifting the Division One Cup with a 5-0 success over Wakefield City.

The top two in Division Two were both reserve sides of Premier Division clubs.

Brighouse Town took the title while Tyersal's second string restored a little pride by finishing in second place.

Ventus/Yeadon, who scored over 100 league goals, ended up in third place with newcomers U-Save Albion in fourth.

Barclays ended up in bottom spot for the second season running. Brighouse Town completed the league and cup double with a 4-2 victory over Storthes Hall Reserves.

Also doing the double were Steeton, who ended up on top of the Reserve Division and enjoyed a 3-1 success over Ardsley Celtic to lift the cup.

There was disappointment outside of County Amateur action. For the first time in 12 seasons, the league did not have a team in the final of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.
