A ROUSING late comeback on Sunday against Bristol City should give Leeds some momentum going into a tricky clash with Derby County at Pride Park tonight.

The Whites were 2-0 down after 16 minutes against the Robins but, roared on by the Elland Road fans, they scored two late goals through Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe to draw 2-2.

It was a reasonable result for Paul Heckingbottom in his first home game in charge of Leeds – but Derby present an altogether different challenge.

The East Midlands side had gone 12 games unbeaten in the Championship before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday and United will hope that defeat has knocked their confidence.

Roofe will be hoping that his late equaliser sees him restored to the Leeds line-up. He had been a regular starter for the Elland Road outfit but a poor performance on February 10 against Sheffield United saw him dropped for the Bristol clash.

He has hit nine league goals for Leeds this season, including a fine hat-trick against QPR in December. Heckingbottom is aware of what he can do but his omission last weekend shows that the new manager does not view any player as untouchable.

After Chris Wood left the club in August, Lasogga was seen as the target man needed to replace him. Despite a fast start, poor form and injuries took hold and he had a miserable end to 2017.

Yet he has improved drastically in the last month. He hit an impressive brace in a losing cause at home to Millwall and he has netted in both of Heckingbottom's games in charge so far.

Derby have not been particularly free-scoring recently, so if the pace and power combination of Roofe and Lasogga can click, the Rams could find themselves in trouble.

Leeds are only eight points outside of the play-off zone, but time is running out for them this season and they must keep winning to stand a chance of promotion.
