LEEDS have confirmed the signing of striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga on a season-long loan deal from Hamburg.

Bundesliga side Hamburg announced the deal had been completed on Tuesday, only to issue a later statement saying there had been delays over paperwork.

"Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Pierre-Michel Lasogga on a season-long loan from Hamburg SV following the successful completion of a medical," a club statement read.

Lasogga, 25, who will wear the number nine shirt, is Leeds' 16th summer signing and their second on deadline day following the earlier arrival of forward Pawel Cibicki from Malmo for an undisclosed fee.

Leeds sold last season's leading goalscorer Chris Wood to Burnley for £15million last week, but have refused to break their current wage structure to land Lasogga.

It is understood that Hamburg will continue to pay a sizeable chunk of his reported £50,000-per-week wages.

The former Germany Under-21 international, who has not appeared for Hamburg this season, scored eight goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances last term.

Leeds stepped up their search for a new striker following the foot injury sustained to summer signing Caleb Ekuban in the recent win at Sunderland.

The West Yorkshire club paid an undisclosed fee to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen last week for teenage striker Jay-Roy Grot.

Sweden Under-21 international Cibicki, meanwhile, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Cibicki, whose parents were both born in Poland, progressed through Malmo's youth system and made his senior debut in 2013.

He scored 12 goals in a total of 57 appearances for Malmo and as well as his 10 appearances for Sweden Under-21s, has also represented Poland at youth level.
