FORMER Sheffield United hitman Billy Sharp is pushing for a Steel City call-up as Leeds return to the scene of last season’s biggest crime.

The 6-0 Hillsborough thumping by Sheffield Wednesday was the lowest point of a tough campaign – made even worse because the TV cameras broadcast it live to the nation.

Sky will be there again tomorrow lunchtime as Darko Milanic looks to claim his first win in the Leeds hot-seat.

Milanic was critical of his side’s lack of attacking edge in the midweek goalless draw with Reading. But he was impressed by substitute Sharp – who could now get the chance to renew his rivalry with the Owls.

The Leeds boss said: “He (Sharp) did very well. He had a chance to score and he brought a lot of energy to the game.

“I think that we played a much better game than Saturday (at Brentford). The team was compact.

“I think (Sheffield Wednesday) will be another difficult game but different.”

Wednesday defender Joe Mattock knows Leeds will be desperate to avenge last season’s humiliation.

He said: “Hopefully, it can be a similar outcome but there will be a backlash from Leeds. It was a bit of an embarrassment for them.

“But they will be out of the traps at us. They have done well this year, too. They have a strong side so will be up for it. But so will we.”
