Guiseley pipped for play-off position
Guiseley 2, Kendal Town 1
Guiseley ended their season with a victory but it was not enough to force their way back into the UniBond Premier Division play-offs.
The frustration is that they missed out by just one point; in fact, one more win over the season would have seen them finish fourth. However, they ended the campaign in sixth place.
This was just outside the play-off zone one point behind Buxton, over whom they had a far superior goal difference.
Eastwood Town were the only club Guiseley could overhaul on the final day of the season but they won at struggling Leek Town. It meant Eastwood finished with two points more but they also had a lesser goal difference than Guiseley.
All Steve Kittrick's men could do was win their last game to give themselves a chance. They created early openings but still did not break the deadlock until just after the half-hour mark.
It was a strike worth the wait, Richard Dunning skipping past several challenges and slipping the ball through. On-loan Bantam Sean Taylforth collected the ball and rounded the keeper before shooting home.
Kendal levelled 11 minutes into the second half through Michael Cole but the home side bounced back for a deserved victory.
Gavin Knight, who was starting due to leading scorer James Hanson's leg being in plaster, got between the keeper and a defender in the 74th minute and flicked in the winner.
