Guiseley
Knight keeps Kittrick’s men in hunt
Worksop Town 1, Guiseley 2
Steve Kittrick's men are keeping their end of the bargain as they look for two victories from their last couple of fixtures.
They dropped out of the play-off places because of the midweek defeat at struggling Leek. Kittrick told his players he would accept nothing less than six points from the next two to be in prime position just in case one of the two clubs above them slip up.
Guiseley took the game to their hosts from the onset and created several openings even before breaking the deadlock. That came on the half hour when Lee Crooks and James Hanson combined and Aron Wilford netted a right-foot shot.
More chances followed but there was a blow when leading scorer James Hanson was carried off with an ankle injury. That was late in the first half and substitute Gavin Knight took the field at the start of the second period.
The visitors were not the only side forced to reorganise as, in the 56th minute, Worksop lost their keeper to a red card for handling outside the area.
An outfield player donned the gloves with no specialist replacement on the bench but he was not troubled immediately as Richard Dunning's effort from the resulting free-kick flashed wide.
The home side's ten men rallied and levelled through Steve Akers with just a little over 12 minutes remaining.
Guiseley we undeterred and responded to earn a deserved victory when a Wilford head on gave Knight the chance to race through and, with only the stand-in keeper to beat, he fired in the winner.
