Whitby Town 1, Guiseley 2
Guiseley battled against a tough Whitby Town outfit and horrendous weather conditions to bag three points from a testing trip to the east coast in the UniBond League Premier Division this afternoon.
It was not much of a spectacle because both sides found it difficult to play football in the swirling, almost gale-force wind.
Spaniard Jonathon Fernandez set Guiseley on the way to the win that keeps their play-off hopes alive.
The winger scored his first goal for the club to give them a half-time lead.
Debutant Dave Merris began the move that led to it midway through the half with a through ball from the left-back area.
James Hanson took it on and crossed to the far post, where Fernandez headed home.
There were other chances for the visitors. Hanson hit the bar with a shot, Fernandez lashed a right-foot shot just over and Lee Tuck also went close.
It was Tuck's last game as his month-long loan from Farsley Celtic ended this morning.
Tuck, who netted a hat-trick for Guiseley in last Monday's 5-2 win at Hednesford Town , had one more telling contribution.
He combined with former Farsley team-mate Damian Dunne to provide the opening that Hanson tapped in to double the visitors' lead in the 55th minute.
Whitby soon hit back when Karl Charlton halved the deficit but Guiseley finished the match strongly.
Dunne, Bruno Holden - another new signing who replaced Dunne from the bench with 20 minutes to go - and Bailey Camfield all had shots saved by the home keeper.
