Fixture pile-up frustrating Guiseley

A series of postponements has left Guiseley facing matches every Saturday and Tuesday until the end of the season A series of postponements has left Guiseley facing matches every Saturday and Tuesday until the end of the season

Guiseley will have to put their FA Trophy frustrations to one side on Saturday and pick up their quest for Blue Square Bet North points – if Nethermoor beats the expected freeze.

The second-placed Lions, who are due to host mid-table Solihull Moors, need to maximise their points haul from the four games in hand they have over leaders Hyde FC and to stay clear of the clubs snapping at their heels.

Steve Kittrick’s men are still waiting to play at Cambridge United for a place in the last eight of the Trophy after two aborted attempts.

The tie was set for last Saturday but postponed, as were all the other third-round ties. The FA set Tuesday down as the rearranged date but that was also called off, so a third attempt will be made next Tuesday.

It meant Guiseley had to shelve a league game at Nuneaton Town last Monday and will have to do likewise with their home derby against FC Halifax Town this coming midweek.

Kittrick said: “The fixtures are piling up at the moment but there is nothing we can do – and even this weekend’s game must be doubtful (a decision is set to be made after a pitch inspection at lunchtime tomorrow).

“We could end up playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday right up until the end of the season and that will benefit only one team – Hyde.

“I come back to what I have been saying all season long, that we should have been playing midweek league games before the bad weather kicked in.

“On the last day of the season we are at Boston United – and Hyde don’t even have a fixture. They will have finished all their games, so I don’t know what that’s all about.

“We have asked the Blue Square League to explain themselves but they can’t. We will just have to battle on because there is nothing we can do about it now.”

Don't know where Mr Kittrick is checking the fixtures, but Hyde are away at Histon on the last day of the season, as I am sure the league would have told him.
