Walshaw a double hit for Lions

The much-awaited West Riding County Cup second-round derby between Farsley Celtic and AFC Halifax Town did not escape the weather but there was good news for two other local clubs.

GUISELEY got through thanks to a 4-1 win at UniBond League Premier Division counterparts Ossett Town.

Town took a sixth-minute lead through former Silsden striker Aaron Hollindrake but the Lions hit back.

The visitors had amassed a 3-1 lead by the interval, with Jamie Walshaw netting the first two goals and Lee Tuck adding a third after rounding the Albion keeper.

A brief spell of possession gave the home side hope at the start of the second half but Guiseley ended the contest with a fourth goal by Steve Burton just before the hour.

LIVERSEDGE also went through at Ossett as they overcame Albion 3-2, despite conceding a penalty with the tie balanced at 2-2.

Paul Walker side-footed Sedge into the lead just before the half-hour mark.

The home side levelled when Sean Kelsey netted a screamer and they were in front by the break as Alex Catton added Albion’s second.

Just before the hour, Lee Ryan and Walker set up Jamie Wasley to score the equaliser.

A foul which led to a yellow card for Cory Larkin saw Albion awarded a penalty but Sedge keeper Stuart Wilkinson pulled off a fine save.

Walker then won the tie when he headed home following a late Brook Newton corner.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN are out after crashing to a surprise 3-1 home defeat to Barnoldswick Town.

FARSLEY and HALIFAX will try to get their tie played at Throstle Nest tomorrow night but rain and frost may still be a problem.

BRADFORD PARK AVENUE will also have one eye on the weather as they are scheduled to play Silsden at Cougar Park tomorrow.
