GUISELEY manager Sean St Ledger has spoken of his delight over the team's defensive improvement in recent months and he reserved a special mention for his young goalkeeper Joe Green, who has excelled in his last two games.

St Ledger enthused: "He's grabbed his opportunity and he's done fantastically well.

"What I want in every position is competition for places and obviously with (Luke) Coddington getting sent off against Leyton Orient, it's given Greeny the chance and he's kept two clean sheets.

"Now I've got two excellent goalkeepers fighting for the number one spot and that's what I want."

Extending that praise to the rest of his side, he said: "I think we've got better. I've done a couple of sessions on defending and the lads seem to be taking it on board. Not just the back four but the whole team."

Despite an upturn in results since St Ledger took charge in February, Guiseley are hanging on to their Vanarama National League status by a thread.

If the Lions lose at Solihull Moors on Saturday, and Woking gain a point at home to Bromley, they will be officially relegated.

St Ledger believes that his players should turn the situation into a positive and play with freedom, saying: "I'd say we've got nothing to lose.

"We won our last away game so hopefully the lads should be positive and in good spirits going to Solihull."

St Ledger admitted that he has enjoyed his brief spell at Guiseley, but he was coy about his future at the club.

He said: "We'll just wait and see what happens. There's still a lot of things up in the air at the football club.

"My remit is just to look after the football side of things. I enjoy going out on to the training ground, on the astro and being involved around that.

"I'm sure there'll be discussions soon enough about what's happening and when I know more, you'll know more."
