LIVERSEDGE were all geared up to make a second attempt to get their Buildbase FA Vase first-round tie against Ashton Athletic completed tonight, but it has been put back to Thursday.

The sides met at Ashton Athletic’s Brocstedes Park on Saturday but with the home side 3-0 up with just 20 minutes to play, the tie was abandoned due to extreme weather.

Sedge boss Jonathan Rimmington has been left frustrated by the late change as he had arranged everything with his players for a game tonight.

He said: “We were all over the place to be fair on Saturday, but we had a lot of players missing and a rookie keeper in.

“The lads had re-arranged shifts or begged for time off to get to Wigan  for tonight, and I had at least three players back, but then the game got switched and I only found out from social media at tea-time yesterday!

“As a club we didn’t get official confirmation yesterday from the FA or our league, so I’m very disappointed with that.

"I’ve since heard that Ashton were concerned about the weather for a Tuesday re-arrangement and that the FA have insisted that it must be completed by Thursday night at the latest, so that’s why it was moved.

“It’s not ideal because it means Ashton and us have to play Thursday to a finish, and then Saturday.

"Whoever wins is facing a very tough game in the second round after the draw picked out Morpeth Town.

“Morpeth are top of the Northern League, pay out some good money and have a very good squad of players. It’s like us playing a side from a league above because they have that kind of financial structure, Evo-Stik League money really, and the Northern League is so strong.

“But it’s a good draw in a way because either us or Ashton will be at home, and you need that home advantage if you’re going to beat a side of their quality.

"Believe me, if you’re top of the Northern League, you’re no mugs."

Bradford Park Avenue will have no time to lick their wounds after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at former Football League rivals Darlington as they make the short trip to leaders Harrogate Town in Vanarama National League North tonight.

Avenue dropped from tenth to 15th in the table following their narrow defeat at the weekend, but Simon Weaver’s Harrogate also had a disappointing result as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by lowly Leamington.

It will be the third meeting between Avenue and Town this season but the first league derby as the initial two games were Emirates FA Cup ties.

Avenue held Harrogate to a goalless draw at the CNG Stadium in the first meeting in the third qualifying round but were then beaten 2-0 at home in the replay two days later.

Weaver was delighted to progress in the cup and was very complimentary about Mark Bower’s Avenue side in his post-match comments after the win at Horsfall.

Avenue were disappointed to lose the tie and feel that they now have a score to settle.

Guiseley also have no time to enjoy Saturday’s home victory in the Vanarama National League as they host Boreham Wood tonight.

The Lions’ 4-2 win over Solihull Moors was the first in the league under new boss Paul Cox and came just a week after Guiseley progressed in the FA Cup with a confidence-boosting 6-0 win over a Shildon side from a lower step on the pyramid.

Cox’s men will be buoyant after back-to-back wins but face a tough test at Nethermoor tonight as the Wood’s also have a spring in their step.

They climbed to eighth, just one point outside the play-off places, with a 2-1 win at Chester at the weekend.

The Lions have a big incentive though as they are now inside the relegation zone on goal difference only and know that a home win could lift them out of the bottom four.

Farsley Celtic will be aiming to bounce back from a humbling 3-0 home defeat to Mickleover Sports on Saturday when they host Ashton United in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division at Throstle Nest.

The Celts remained fourth, despite their home defeat, and are just four points off the summit, but they would be overhauled by their eighth- placed visitors tonight.

Ashton United trail Farsley by just three points and have a better goal difference.
