GUISELEY resume their quest for survival in the National League on Saturday as they travel to Wrexham after a blank weekend.

Adam Lockwood’s men should have hosted Sutton United last week but their scheduled opponents were busy making more FA Cup history with victory over Leeds United.

The televised win over the Lions’ neighbours set up a mouthwatering clash at home to Arsenal in the fifth round on Monday, Febuary 20 and should put extra spotlight on Guiseley’s rearranged game with Sutton six days earlier.

But the Nethermoor men’s immediate focus is the trip to Wrexham, when they will be hoping to pick up where they left off.

The Lions had won back-to-back games in the league as they followed up a 2-1 home victory over Maidstone United with another three points from their trip to Macclesfield Town.

Lockwood had signed Derek Asamoah from Carlisle United and he made an impressive debut against the Silkmen.

Since their last game the Lions boss has also added experienced midfielder Kevan Hurst but former Norwich City man Oli Johnson has joined Bradford Park Avenue on a a permanent deal.

Lockwood was delighted to land Asamoah, saying: “I’ve known of Derek for a long time and I was on the phone non-stop for a couple of weeks before getting the deal over the line.

“I thought that his debut was a very accomplished performance and he gives us a little bit of what we haven’t had so far. He’s a very good player and he will trouble defences.”

Asamoah is likely to find himself up against a former Carlisle team-mate in midfielder Russell Penn after the former York City man, who has been on loan at Gateshead earlier this season, signed for the Dragons.

Hurst is set to make his Guiseley bow in Wales at the weekend and he is another player with a wealth of Football League experience after spells with Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield, Walsall and Mansfield Town, who he joins the Lions from on loan until the end of the season.

Saturday's hosts Wrexham are ten places and 14 points better off than the Lions in 12th spot and they still harbour ambitions of a play-off finish.

They have picked up ten points from the last available 12 and have taken points off two of the sides above them in their last two games.

Guiseley’s weekend off cost them one place in the relegation zone but they now have at least one game in hand on most of their fellow strugglers and are just two points below the safety mark.
