Woking 0 Guiseley 0

GUISELEY headed to Woking’s Kingfield Stadium looking to emulate the result from their last visit but had to settle for a draw against their National League fellow strugglers.

The Lions’ last away win was at Woking way back in February. It is no surprise, therefore, that Guiseley are battling for survival in the top tier of non-league football given that stark statistic.

Nonetheless, the Lions extended their unbeaten league run to four games and battled for a precious point.

It could have been so much more though - if only they had taken their chances.

Adam Lockwood’s side were the most positive from the off and Garry Hill’s 'Cards' were in danger of folding.

Jordan Preston was the first to threaten from one of many route one assaults.

Preston was found lurking at the back post but failed to direct his header and the ball went high over the target.

Preston was well placed again when Cards’ keeper Brandon Hall fumbled a cross but, with the goal gaping, he elected to chip his shot and it dipped over the crossbar.

Five minutes before the break, Jake Cassidy slipped the offside trap but didn’t get a good contact on his shot and the ball struck the post before bouncing into goalkeeper Hall’s arms.

Guiseley keeper Jon Maxted made one fine save to palm a header from Chigozie Ugwu away from the bottom corner. But Maxted had to be more alert in the second half as Woking created more opportunities.

Nathan Ralph, who was back from injury for the home side, hit a half volley over Maxted’s bar while Connor Brown cleared an effort off the line.

But Guiseley were also going close at the other end as Cassidy prodded wide and a Michael Rankine shot was well saved by Hall.

Cassidy forced another top save from Hall and Will Hatfield headed just wide.

The closing stages were frantic as both sides went for a winner in an attempt to turn a single point into a much needed maximum.

Despite banking a point, Guiseley still dropped down to second bottom in the table after North Ferriby United’s 2-1 win at Maidstone.
