Lincoln City 0, Guiseley 0

GUISELEY will hope to get the better of Lincoln City when the two clubs meet again tomorrow after 90 minutes failed to produce a goal in the FA Cup fourth qualifying-round tie at Sincil Bank.

Adam Lockwood's side are slowly building momentum and this result followed back-to-back league victories.

The Lions had a couple of good chances in the first half, with Jake Cassidy's shot deflected wide and Connor Brown firing over from a Jordan Preston corner.

Yet it was the home side that created more opportunities and Dan Atkinson of Guiseley was by far the busier of the goalkeepers.

Atkinson saved a shot from Harry Anderson, who was named the sponsors' man of the match, and made a breathtaking reaction save to keep out Matt Rhead's point-blank header.

After the interval, the home side tightened their grip on the tie and put even more pressure on the Lions defence.

Danny Lowe was alert and just got to the ball before Terry Hawkridge and Atkinson palmed an Anderson shot away.

Anderson, Alex Woodyard, Hawkridge and Rhead all went close as Guiseley defended stoically.

A long-range effort from Luke Waterfall took a deflection and looped onto the bar, Rhead planted a header inches wide and substitute Theo Robinson saw a drive deflected for a corner as a handball appeal was waved away by the referee.

Lockwood was honest in his post-match assessment, saying: "Looking at the game overall, we were nowhere near where we should be with the ball but off the ball I thought we were superb.

"We showed another side to our game and the guys are proving to themselves what they are about. I think that this was a game that three weeks or a month ago we would have come away from with nothing.

"I think the players deserve a lot of credit for the way they backed each other up and earned their luck. That will happen when you put the effort in and I said that when I took over. It comes down to working hard on and off the pitch and with or without the ball.

"I was delighted with one side of our game but not happy with the other side of it – but some of our players are still developing. We are in the hat for the next round and that's good for the football club and great for the fans."
