Guiseley 1, Woking 1

ADAM Lockwood is remaining patient as he waits to discover if he will be handed the reins at Guiseley for the rest of the season.

Lockwood took charge of his fourth game as interim boss during Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Woking.

It stretched the Lions' winless start to the season to nine games and left them still bottom of the Vanarama National League table.

But Lockwood saw further signs of improvement and remains quietly optimistic about his prospects of being named Mark Bower's permanent successor.

He said: "I've said from day one that it doesn't really affect me. I can only control what I can control and that is that I'll give everything to the club to keep going and improving this group.

"We will see where it gets us but I'm enjoying everything about it.

"It's a big challenge but I'm seeing the lads enjoy themselves and anyone can judge that from watching their football. That's how it has to be and we've just got to convert it into more points."

Guiseley generally had the upper hand against their fellow strugglers but did not make the breakthrough until the 47th minute.

A low cross from Nicky Clee was expertly dispatched into the top corner of Michael Poke's net by Adam Boyes' superb right-footed finish.

Poke denied Jordan Preston and Javan Vidal as the hosts pushed for a second goal but Woking battled back and the Lions could not held on.

Substitute Dennon Lewis deflected in Fabio Saraiva's header in the 82nd minute to leave the Guiseley players bitterly frustrated.

Lockwood, who handed a debut to on-loan Bradford City teenager Reece Webb-Foster and next takes his team to Chester on Tuesday night, said: "Overall I felt we deserved the win.

"We have to maintain our standards and the lads have been great since I came in and hopefully that will continue.

"But if you really look at that game on Saturday, then you will see great stuff that we haven't seen here for a while.

"It's disappointing when you're winning 1-0 and concede – but we will continue to try and get over that hurdle and get that first win."
