INTERIM Guiseley boss Adam Lockwood has reassured his players they all have a role to play in the club’s fight against relegation this season.

That includes his two latest signings, former Leeds United midfielder Simon Walton and Bradford City’s 18-year-old striker Reece Webb-Foster who has joined the Lions on a one-month loan.

Both are in the squad to face fellow strugglers Woking at Nethermoor tomorrow.

The Lions remain bottom of the Vanarama National League but picked up their first point of the season in last weekend’s goalless draw at home to Braintree.

With Lockwood taking charge of his fourth game in caretaker charge tomorrow, the former Doncaster defender remains hopeful of taking the reins on a permanent basis and is seeking a much-needed win.

Guiseley last week also signed goalkeeper Jonny Maxted on a three-month loan deal from Forest Green.

The Lions allowed keeper Tim Deasy to rejoin Altrincham and ex-Doncaster trainee Maxted came in to make his debut against Braintree at the expense of Dan Atkinson.

Yet Lockwood said: “I’ve told the guys that they will all have a chance and they will all play a big part.

“It has to be that way when you’ve got a small squad – you have to rely on everyone being able to slot straight in. Each player offers you a different threat and mentality, so if I can use every player and am comfortable with that then I’ll be a happy man.

“I’ve told the guys I want to see them disappointed when they’re not playing because that’s what it’s about.

“But I want them to trust me that I’m doing it for the good of the team.

“There will be times when they perform and times when they don’t – that’s just human nature and part of football. But you can’t play well in every game because if you did then you’d be in the Premier League.

“I just want to do well for the guys in there first and foremost because they’re a good bunch with great ability.”

Maxted enjoyed a solid debut in last weekend’s stalemate with Braintree as the Lions kept their first clean sheet of the season.

Lockwood said of Atkinson’s omission: “Dan was very unlucky and I’ve had a chat with him.

“I gave him a bit of a hard time the other week and he came back and performed very well at Tranmere.

“It was a tough one for me but I just went with my gut feeling in picking Jonny for the Braintree game and I told Dan that.

“Jonny offers us something a little bit different and that’s between me, Dan and Jonny and the squad. Like I said, people will always be needed.”

The Lions are under growing pressure to register their first win of the season as they seek to avoid being cut adrift in the National League drop zone.

Woking lie just three points above Guiseley and Lockwood said: “We’ve improved game by game in my eyes and you could see how solid we were against Braintree.

“The next step is to build on that solid base.”
