THE action for the local semi-pro clubs gets underway tomorrow, with two of the area’s clubs in pre-season friendly action.

Vanarama National League outfit Guiseley are easing their way in with a trip to Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Parkgate, while Eccleshill United will host Parkgate’s league counterparts Garforth Town.

Guiseley boss Mark Bower said: “We’ve been back a week, so we’re about ready for a game.

"The last two pre-seasons we had play-offs that made the close season a little shorter but we’ve had a good couple of months' rest this time.

“The fitness levels are good and the players are looking forward to the trip to Rotherham to take on Parkgate. We are going to have a few trialists, and this will be the ideal game to get them involved.

“When you are part-time like we are and doing training a few evenings a week, match fitness is key, and with that in mind we’ve arranged these friendly games so that we’re ready for the league.

“There are a lot of early games in the National League – something like ten in the first five or six weeks, so it’s important that you get off to a good start. We’re happy with where we are right now.”

The visit of Garforth to Eccleshill will be the first of two games in four days for the Eagles as they will be hosting Bradford Park Avenue – in what will be their first friendly – on Tuesday.

There is also a match at Throstle Nest tomorrow, with a charity game for Crohns & Colitis UK.

The Crohns or Away match has been arranged by Celts supporter Jack Stansfield, who has suffered from the disease but is now recovering, and the organisers have promised a War of the Roses feel to the game.
