GUISELEY boss Mark Bower is aiming to put a dent in the promotion challenge of a Dover side he believes could be playing in the Football League next season.

The Lions drew 2-2 at home to Grimsby on Tuesday night, following up last week’s draw at Tranmere by the same scoreline, and now they face another promotion-chaser in Dover.

The south coast outfit arrive at Nethermoor in fourth spot in the National League and Bower has a lot of respect for a team who beat Guiseley 3-0 at home in a FA Trophy replay last month.

The Lions manager said: “Dover are a fantastic side on a great, great run, so we have to make sure we are right at it against them.

“They’re a really good side and if you’re looking for, not so much a dark horse but a team to go all the way through the play-offs, then I think they could be well equipped.

“They have got a lot of physical strength in their side but a lot of good footballers as well, so they’ve got a really good balance about them.

“I think they have got every chance of being a Football League next season but hopefully we can beat them on Saturday and put a dent in their challenge.

“We’ve got to concentrate on ourselves and make sure that we get the lads right for Saturday.”

Guiseley have not won in their last six league outings but they have claimed four draws during that sequence.

Bower added: “We managed to sneak a point further away from the bottom four on Tuesday night and have just got to keep ticking over.

“We need to do against other teams in the league – with all due respect not the likes of Tranmere and Grimsby – these performances will get us wins.

“We’ve got to keep going and we’ll look to put in another good performance against Dover.

“Hopefully we can finally get over the line by turning these draws into wins because it makes such a difference to the league table at this stage of the season.”
