GUISELEY boss Mark Bower has been full of praise for his young keeper Dan Atkinson.

The 20-year-old has featured in the last two National League games against Altrincham and Forest Green with first choice Steve Drench ruled out by illness.

Bower said: "I’m very pleased for him because it’s difficult for a young keeper who wants to play but his chances have been limited behind Drenchy. He has shown the right attitude in training, been patient and shown everyone just how good of a keeper he is.”

Atkinson has been delighted to be in the thick of the action. After Tuesday's heart-breaking 1-0 bome defeat by Forest Green, he said: "The back to back games have been good for me and I’ve enjoyed them. It’s an opportunity that so far in my career I haven’t had so it’s good for me.

“I was at Leeds and enjoyed nine great years there and they trained me well enough to come straight into this division and do well."
